Cedar Shingle Cleaning & Repair
Portland SW Hills Project
This month we were called out to a house in the SW Hills near Washington Park to review a roof for cleaning and maintenance. The house had a beautiful and unique cedar shingle roof that had been installed about 15 years ago. During our initial conversation with the homeowner and assessing the roof, we learned that the roof had not been receiving regular maintenance and could see a build-up of moss, leaves, and other debris on the roof. We also found a few shingles that had started to rot and crack, compromising the roof’s integrity leading to leaks.
Cedar shingles are durable, improve the curb appeal of a home, and make a home more energy-efficient through increased insulation and air circulation. Cedar roofs do require regular maintenance to continue performing at their best. The shingles need cleaning to remove moss and other debris, which can reduce the roof’s ability to ‘breathe’ and lead to shingle damage.
The full project took our crew two days to complete. The homeowners were impressed by the difference a cleaning made and were put at ease knowing that the roof will be functioning well with winter right around the corner. We recommend that anyone with a cedar roof stick to a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule to improve your roof’s visual appeal, performance, and longevity.
In addition to protecting our customers’ investments, we are protecting our customers by following current state-recommended guidelines. Our crew wears masks, keeps their hands sanitized, and maintains a safe social-distance with customers at all times. We also do not enter our customers’ homes at any time during estimation or while performing services.
