Raleigh Hills Deck Washing, Sanding, & Staining

Interest in outdoor living spaces grew over last summer due to the pandemic, and many homeowners are looking for ways to expand or enhance their outdoor areas. Dusty, a homeowner in SW Portland, had her deck redone last year and replaced all the floorboards. Dusty’s beautiful deck is Western Red Cedar and includes a built-in cook prep station with a granite countertop, making it a perfect spot for grilling and relaxing outdoors. Typically recommended for cedar decks, the customer did not have the deck immediately stained upon completion. Cedar that has been allowed to slightly weather is more receptive to stain.

Our first step in this project was to power wash the full deck, to remove any dirt and debris. Once the deck was clean, we used fine-grit sandpaper to smooth out any scratches or other imperfections. We used both floor sanders and orbital handheld sanders during this process. We then used an oil-based, semi-transparent stain over the entire deck surface, handrails, and the built-in cook prep station. We chose this stain because it highlights the cedar’s natural grain while also providing lasting protection. This straightforward deck refinish will last 2-3 years.

Dusty got bids from multiple contractors before settling on NW Surface Cleaner. Although our proposal wasn’t the cheapest, Dusty chose our services due to our positive reputation, including superior attention to detail and personalized attention to each project. Dusty was happy with the finished project results and felt our services were more than worth the extra money.
